Tea Sandwiches

It's tea time! Throw your own afternoon tea party with our selection of teatime treats, from delicious tea sandwiches to the perfect cuppa!

Tea Sandwiches

Ingredients

  • Cucumber, Cream Cheese and Dill Tea Sandwiches
  • 12 slices very thin white or whole wheat bread, frozen
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) Canadian butter, softened
  • ½ a brick (113 g) Canadian cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) lemon zest
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) salt
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) fresh dill, chopped
  • ½ english cucumber, very thinly sliced
  • Ham and Cheddar Tea Sandwiches
  • 12 slices very thin white or whole wheat bread, frozen
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) Canadian butter, softened
  • 2-4 slices (56-113 g) Canadian cheddar cheese
  • 2-4 slices (22-88 g) black forest ham
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) mustard

Preparation

Cucumber, Cream Cheese and Dill Tea Sandwiches

Remove bread from freezer and partially thaw at room temperature until easy to cut with a sharp bread knife.

Use a cookie cutter to cut the bread into 12 circles.

In a small bowl, combine dill, Canadian cream cheese, lemon zest and a pinch of salt.

To assemble the tea sandwich, start by layering the ingredients in the following order from the bottom up: Bread, butter, dill-cream cheese mixture, cucumber, dill-cream cheese mixture butter, bread, butter, cucumber, dill-cream cheese mixture, butter, bread

Repeat the process until all tea sandwiches are complete.

Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve or serve immediately.

Ham and Cheddar Tea Sandwiches

Remove bread from freezer and thaw partially at room temperature until easy to cut with a sharp bread knife

Use a cookie cutter to cut the bread into 12 circles.

Cut 6 circles out of the Canadian cheddar cheese.

Cut 6 circles of ham.

To assemble the tea sandwich, start by layering the ingredients in the following order from the bottom up: Bread, butter, mayo, ham, mustard, cheese, mayo, butter, bread, butter mayo, ham, mustard, cheese, mayo, butter bread.

Repeat the process until all tea sandwiches are complete.

Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve or serve immediately.

Tips

  • Elevate your tea sandwiches by using cookie cutters to create fun shapes. 
  • Frozen bread cuts better, giving you nicely defined edges that won't look pinched like those made with room temperature bread. The bread will thaw very quickly. If preparing sandwiches ahead of time, keep them in the fridge until they are ready to be served
  • Keep your tea sandwiches from getting soggy by buttering the insides of the bread.
  • Keep the leftover bread crusts to make homemade croutons.
