Harvest Butternut Squares

Ingredients
- 1 cup (250 mL) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) sugar
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) firm butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) butter melted
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) vinegar
- 1 tsp (5 mL) vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup (160 mL) coarsely chopped walnuts
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) golden raisins
- Walnut halves (optional)

Preparation
Preheat oven to 350 ºF (180 ºC).
In medium bowl, combine flour and granulated sugar. Cut in 1/2 cup (125 mL) butter with pastry blender or two knives until mixture is crumbly. Press onto bottom of unbuttered 9 inch (23 cm) square baking pan. Bake 10 minutes.
In medium bowl, lightly beat eggs. Beat in brown sugar, 1/4 cup (60 mL) butter, vinegar and vanilla extract. Stir in nuts and raisins. Pour over hot crust.
Bake 30 minutes longer or until set. Let cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into squares and garnish with walnut halves, if desired.
Tips
Place the oven rack in centre of the oven for even browning.
