In Canada, the pricing of milk at the farm level is regulated consistently and transparently by a federal crown corporation called the Canadian Dairy Commission, with a pricing formula that is applied nationally.  This formula looks at farmers costs of production, and inflation. This pricing is announced for the coming year every fall, three months before it takes effect in February of the following year.
