Mozzarella and Ricotta Calzone Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 ball homemade pizza dough or store-bought (be sure to let dough rise beforehand)
  • Flour to roll out dough
  • 1/3 cup (80 mL) Canadian Ricotta cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic crushed
  • A few leaves fresh basil or 1 tsp (5 mL) dried basil
  • 3/4 cup (180 mL) Canadian Mozzarella cheese grated
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) olive oil
  • 4 Pack (125 g) mortadella or prosciutto chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 1 egg beaten

Preparation

Preheat oven to 400 °F (200 °C).

Using a rolling pin, roll out dough (it should be quite thin). Using a pastry cutter, cut out circles 10 cms in diameter.

Mix together all ingredients except flour and egg. Season with salt and pepper. Spread mixture in the centre of dough circles. Do not overfill.

Brush egg on dough edges and fold into semicircular pockets. Pinch along edges to seal. Brush egg over dough pockets, bake in preheated oven 12-15 minutes, until golden. Serve hot.
