This recipe is taken from the 2008 Milk Calendar. Any time of day, a thick, frosty smoothie bursting with fruit flavour, cold milk and yogurt makes a nutritious snack or part of a balanced meal.

Ingredients

  • Raspberry Lemon Smoothie
  • 2 cups (500 mL) Milk
  • 2 cups (500 mL) frozen raspberries
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) lemon yogurt or vanilla yogurt
  • 2 tsp (10 mL) grated lemon zest
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) liquid honey
  • Banana Blueberry Orange Smoothie
  • 2 cups (500 mL) Milk
  • 2 frozen very ripe bananas cut into chunks
  • 1 cup (250 mL) frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) vanilla yogurt
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) frozen orange juice concentrate
  • Pomegranate Sunrise Smoothie
  • 1/2 cup (125 mL) pomegranate juice
  • 2 cups (500 mL) Milk
  • 2 cups (500 mL) frozen mixed tropical fruit
  • 3/4 cup (180 mL) vanilla yogurt
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) liquid honey

Preparation

Raspberry Lemon Smoothie and Banana Blueberry Orange Smoothie

In a blender, combine milk, frozen fruit, yogurt and other flavourings (as called for); purée until smooth. Pour into glasses; serve immediately.

Pomegranate Sunrise Smoothie

Divide pomegranate juice evenly in each of 2 to 4 tall glasses.

In a blender, combine milk, frozen fruit, yogurt and honey; purée until smooth.

Holding a teaspoon with rounded side up and angled toward inside of glass, gently pour in smoothie mixture on top of pomegranate juice to create two layers. Swirl slightly, if desired, to create a Sunrise effect. Serve immediately.
