Baked Pork Chops with Barbecue Sauce

This recipe is taken from the 1993 Milk Calendar. Baking pork chops in the oven in a barbecue sauce makes them tender and juicy and adds an outdoor flavour all year 'round.

Baked Pork Chops with Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (250 mL) bottled barbecue sauce
  • 1 cup (250 mL) Canadian milk
  • 1/4 cup (60 mL) brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) mustard
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) soy sauce
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 6 pork butt chops 3/4-inch (2 cm) thick

Preparation

In a medium sized saucepan, combine the barbecue sauce, milk, brown sugar, mustard, soy sauce, onions and garlic. Bring mixture to a boil. Simmer gently, uncovered, stirring often, 10 to 15 min or until thickened.

Pat pork chops dry. Place them in a 9 x 13-inch (23 x 33 cm) baking dish in a single layer. Spoon sauce on top.

Bake in a preheated 375 °F (190 °C) oven for 40 min.

Tips

Sauce can be used immediately or refrigerated for up to 5 days.

The pork chops can also be quickly browned in a pan, before placing in the baking dish.
