It sounds romantic, doesn’t it? Actually, cows like their barn as much as we prefer the comfort of our own home! Various farmers have different practices when it comes to housing animals and letting them outside, but barns serve very important functions: they provide shelter to animals, as well as protection from the elements (wind, sun, cold) and from predators. On hot and humid days, when the sun beams down on animals, they may well prefer the comfort, shade and coolness of a well-ventilated barn. In winter, barns offer protection from the cold, wind or snow. The comfort of their bedding offers warmth, and good ventilation protects their health.
