Butterscotchy Almond Bars

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp (10 mL) baking powder
- 1/2 cup (125 mL) butter
- 2 cups (500 mL) packed brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 tsp (7 mL) vanilla extract
- 1 square of semi-sweet chocolate
- Nutty Topping
- 1/4 cup (60 mL) butter
- 1/3 cup (80 mL) sugar
- 1/3 cup (80 mL) corn syrup
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) water
- 1/4 tsp (1 mL) salt
- 1 1/2 cups (375 mL) sliced almonds

Preparation
Combine flour and baking powder; set aside. Melt butter in large saucepan. Remove from heat; blend in sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour mixture. Spread batter in a greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch (3.5 L) cake pan.
Bake in 350 ºF (180 ºC) oven 20 minutes. Spread Nutty Topping evenly over surface. Bake 15 minutes longer. Cool. Melt chocolate; drizzle over pan. Cut into bars.
Nutty Topping:
Melt butter in small saucepan. Add and mix in sugar, corn syrup, water and salt.
Bring mixture to boil; boil 4 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in sliced almonds.
