Homemade Meat Pie

This is the Homemade Meat Pie recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 carrot chopped
  • 2 tbsp (30 mL) butter
  • 1 1/2 lb (675 g) ground pork
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) ground cloves
  • 1 tsp (5 mL) savory
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup (80 to 125 mL) beef broth
  • 2 potatoes peeled and cubed
  • A dash of Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 piecrusts

Preparation

Preheat oven to 375 °F (190 °C).

In saucepan, sauté onion and carrot in butter for 3 minutes while stirring. Add pork and brown over medium heat until well done. Drain fat directly from saucepan. Add clove, savory, broth and potatoes. Season to taste with Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper.

Cover and cook over medium-low heat for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Remove mixture from heat and let cool. Line pie plate with one of the piecrusts. Fill with meat mixture and cover with other piecrust. Seal ends and make 3 short slashes in top crust. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve with home-made ketchup and small marinades.
