Monte Cristo Brunch Sandwich
This outstanding ham and melted cheese sandwich tastes even better with a drizzle of maple syrup.

Ingredients
- 8 slices white or pumpernickel bread
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) Dijon mustard
- 10 oz (300 g) home-cooked ham in 4 slices
- 8 oz (240 g) Canadian Swiss Cheese thinly sliced
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup (80 mL) Milk
- 3 tbsp (45 mL) Butter
- Maple syrup
- Fresh red berries

Preparation
Arrange 4 slices of bread on a work surface. Spread with mustard. Top with alternating slices of ham and cheese, folding to fit the bread.
Cover with remaining bread.
Beat eggs and milk in a dish.
Melt half the butter in 2 large skillets over medium heat.
Dip both sides of the sandwiches in the egg mixture.
Brown the sandwiches over medium heat about 4 minutes on each side, adding the remaining butter halfway through.
Cut each sandwich in 2 triangles and serve with maple syrup and fresh berries.
Tips
An electric pancake griddle is also good for making Monte Cristo sandwiches.
