Dairy Farmers of Canada is currently seeking an Analyst, Policy & Trade to join our team.


Dairy Farmers of Canada is the national policy, lobbying and promotional organization representing Canadian dairy producers. DFC strives to create stable conditions for the dairy sector in our country. It also seeks to maintain policies that promote the sustainability of Canadian dairy production and promote dairy products and their health benefits. Dairy farmers have set a goal of net-zero emissions from farm-level dairy production by 2050. We are currently seeking an Analyst, Policy & Trade to join our team.


Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Director, or to such person designated by Dairy Farmers of Canada (“DFC”), the Analyst, Policy & Trade is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and various reporting functions on statistical and economic data, in support of Policy and Trade (“P&T”) programs and services. The incumbent works closely with the P&T team and greater Advocacy Team to support research and development and participates in the collective effort of organizational objectives.

The incumbent may be appointed at a junior, intermediate, or senior level and/or may be primarily responsible for specific areas of subject matter expertise, including but not limited to data, market, and pricing analyses based on a combination of DFC’s needs as well as the incumbent’s skills, qualifications, and degree of responsibility.


Duties & Responsibilities

Analysis & Research

  • Develop a solid knowledge of the evolution of the different consumption trends of dairy products and their substitutes within the different market segmentations;
  • Continuously acquire a progressive understanding of the Canadian dairy market with respect to its rules for milk utilization and sales ;
  • Develop a solid knowledge of the evolution of the new trade agreements entered into force in Canada and impact on demand;
  • Participate in the market research projects to develop new policies and/or programs that benefit the Canadian dairy sector;
  • Develop market or statistical analysis in order to support initiatives from Marketing, Business Stakeholder Relations (“BSR”), National Nutrition, and Provincial Nutrition teams;
  • Participate to the effort of the adoption of the farmers’ strategic direction during the mediation of disputes, governmental initiatives, or negotiation of agreements;
  • Participate in the preparation of statistical background to conduct a periodic return on investment analysis of marketing and nutrition programs; and
  • Perform routine calculations under the supervision of internal subject matter experts and management.

Data Management & Communication

  • Monitor and report on trends and evolutions pertaining to the domestic market, as well as imports under international trade agreements;
  • Develop essential monitoring tools to stay informed and respond quickly;
  • Participate in the delivery of monthly reports on retail sales of dairy products with a target to share it with DFC ;
  • Assist or prepare market reporting, projection, and planning documents;
  • Assist or prepare market performance reporting tools to management and stakeholders; and
  • Communicate and collaborate, as assigned, with the Canadian Dairy Commission (“CDC”), provincial membership organizations and other industry or government stakeholders (Statistics Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and others).

The Ideal Candidate

  • Master’s degree in Economics, Business, Statistics, Data Analysis, or any other related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • Minimum two (2) years relevant experience;
  • Exceptional Office 365 technical skills in Excel, with a keen understanding of Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint;
  • Existing knowledge of the dairy sector is considered an asset; and
  • Fluent bilingualism (French and English), written and spoken is considered an asset.
  • Seniority level commensurate with qualification criteria.

Working Environment

Dairy Farmers of Canada offers flexible work arrangements for a variety of needs, including hours of work. Candidates and incumbents are encouraged to disclose accommodation requirements to People & Culture.

Working conditions are normal for an office environment. Travel is required to attend meetings primarily within Canada. Travel should not exceed 10% of total working time.
