
Sunday Best Apple Crisp
Our favourite dessert to share, this homemade apple crisp recipe has sweetened up Sunday socials, potlucks and family gatherings for years. With a spiced apple filling and a buttery crumble topping, it’s our way of sharing a little slice of home with the people we care about the most. – Suz, PEI

Ingredients
- Crumble
- 3 cups (750 mL) large flake oats
- 1 ½ cups (375 mL) packed brown sugar
- ½ cup (125 mL) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (250 mL) Canadian butter, melted
- ½ tsp (2 mL) ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp (2 mL) salt
- Filing
- 6 cups (1.5 L) sliced peeled cooking apples (such as Granny Smith)
- ½ cup (125 mL) granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp (10 mL) ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp (2 mL) salt
- 2 tbsp (30 mL) water
- Garnish
- Canadian vanilla ice cream and/or Canadian whipped cream

Preparation
Crumble
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
In medium bowl, stir together rolled oats, brown sugar, flour, melted butter, cinnamon and salt. Spread half the oats mixture evenly in 9-inch (23 cm) square baking dish.
Filing
In large bowl, stir together apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt and water. Transfer to the baking dish and spread into even layer over oats mixture. Sprinkle with remaining oats mixture.
Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until the top is browned to your liking. Let rest for 15 minutes.
Garnish
Serve warm and top with Canadian vanilla ice cream and/or Canadian whipped cream.
Tips
Any remaining crisp can be covered and stored at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerated for up to 5 days.
