The 2021 Census of Agriculture notes that technology has shaped farming and automated several tasks. This trend has lead to higher on-farm productivity over years and the creation of more off-farm expert jobs. A non-exhaustive list of experts in the dairy farm sector includes veterinarians, ruminant nutrition experts, hoof-trimmers, and agrologists who share expertise to help farmers improve in the fields or in the barn.

Farming is High Tech

Other specialists not always associated with farming include experts in programming technology and tech support. After all, over 20% of dairy farms today use robotic milking systems, and many more use other digital technology and automation to obtain and analyse data and stay ahead of issues.

Innovative farmers embrace these tools to maintain their competitive advantage, meaning that, with early detection of issues and intervention, they avoid costs incurred by  problems more often than others. In other words, they invest strategically and run more productive, efficient and sustainable dairy farms.
